Shaykh Uthmฤn continued with the discourse on Lahn, he said

And it is said that the Sharฤซ'ah obligation... is what they (Qurrฤ) all have a consensus

Here, the Shaykh mentions a second opinion that says that al-Wฤjib Ash-Shar'ฤซ refers to what all the Qurrฤ have a consensus on such as Madd lฤzim (which they all agreed on 6 harakah counts) Qasr (like in the natural Madd), etc...

And the second obligation, that is, professional (obligation)... is based upon three types

Teaching the one who, by his nature , will be proficient... in his recitation or he imitates perfectly

Or his knowledge of the stopping is well grounded... or he is well aware of the difference of opinions amongst the Qurr

The Professional obligation involves 3 things

1. Learning the rulings of Tajwฤซd and applying them in recitation or perfectly imitating a teacher who knows these rules even if one doesn't know them in theory.

  • Ability to recite exact way the teacher (or an expert reciter) recites, hence making sure one is not making the Lahn

2. A good understanding of the rulings of Al-Waqf wal ibtidฤ (the stopping and starting).

  • This involves knowing which word to stop on during recitation without conferring a wrong meaning to the listener.

  • This knowledge is so important that making some stop intentionally could lead to Kufr (disbelief)

3. A good understanding of the difference of opinions amongst the Qurr

  • This will help you from mixing up one Riwฤyah with the others during recitation.

  • A recitation may be correct in a Riwฤyah while same in other Riwฤyah may be counted as error.

One who learns, masters and practices these 3 above will sure be free from Lahn Jaliyy and Khafiyy, in Shaa Allฤh

And this is where the Shaykh concluded his explanation of Lahn

After knowing what Lahn is basically, we'll take time to go through the common mistakes that occur in each of the letters of the Arabic alphabet, Bi'idhnillฤh.

Shaykh At-Tฤซbฤซ said in Mandhลซmatul Mufฤซd fit Tajwฤซd

And the number of the Hijฤ letters is ...

Twenty nine, without a doubt.

We'll be going through some of the common errors that occur in the articulation of each of these letters

The errors we'll be highlighting in the coming days will be those that I have made myself, those I have listened to others making and those I have seen in books .

May Allฤh grant us Tawfฤซq to attain benefits from this.
